Oliana Dairy Free Cheese Tasty Block – Australian Brand

This is our first guest entry from a friend in Australia! Lone lives in Australia and was able to review one of the vegan cheese brands there. Enjoy the read – and hopefully the cheese very soon, too:

First of all, I’m gonna have to start this review by saying sorry to all the other vegan cheeses. After trying this one, I don’t think anything is gonna come close when it comes to either taste or texture. But hey, I would love to be proven wrong.

I’ve always been a big fan of meat substitutes, but I’ve had a hard time finding a dairy free cheese to please my cravings. That was until I stumbled upon Oliana.

Business Background

The cheese is made by the  Australian owned company Oliana Foods and can be found in a variety of different Australian stores and supermarkets, like Harris Farm, Woolworth and Coles

The company isn’t fully vegan, but offers different types of cheese and meat substitutes as a cruelty free alternative. It’s a start.

Taste and Score

It has a rich creamy texture, melts in your mouth and tastes exactly like dairy cheese, without coming off too strong. I really can’t tell the difference between this cheese and «normal» cheese, and the same goes for my non-vegan boyfriend that prefers this over any dairy cheese.

It comes in blocks or slices. I normally go for the blocks, then later decide what to do with it.

It shreds perfectly and doesn’t fall apart when you slice it.

One of the things that makes me even happier about this cheese is that it actually melts almost perfectly. It takes a bit longer than dairy cheese and it doesn’t melt all the way, meaning that if you shredded your cheese it will still look shredded after it’s melted (why I rated it 80% on looks), but that doesn’t affect the taste or the texture.

It’s free from lactose, gluten, soy and palm oil, with coconut oil as one of the main ingredients, without it tasting like coconut.
